Whether you want the base model with the simplest functions, or the fully loaded model with all the bells and whistles, you can find the best match for your performance needs and budget. Custom positioners: selecting the perfect solution

The first step in the selection process is working with an ALM team member to determine the positioner style and capacity. ALM positioners can be categorized as single-axis, two-axis or three-axis positioners. They are designed to lift, tilt and rotate any weldment, assembly or fixture so that it can be accessed and handled safely and quickly.

From there, ALM can recommend the right positioner for the job and configure it with the control platform to meet your needs.

Control platforms: the brains behind the brawn

Next, you’ll select your positioner’s control platform. The control platform is the interface your team will use to operate the positioner. It’s the mind behind your positioner’s muscle.

Non-programmable controls are the best choice for manual operations. Programmable controls offer advanced features and connectivity that provide maximum operator efficiency and further automation capabilities. Determining the right control platform depends on several factors, including operator skill, training and programming time and overall connectivity needs.

Smart: Siemens (non-programmable)

This standard level platform is PLC controlled and features push-buttons for operating the hydraulically powered positioner… Operators can be trained and begin using the positioner on the same day.

This platform is ideally suited for customers who need a reliable, high value positioner and do not require the advanced features of ALM’s other control platforms.

Smarter: M850

This is a more flexible control platform that allows the operator to have more freedom. The quick-move function allows the operator to enter information — like degrees of rotation — and hit enter, automatically controlling the positioner without having to hold down the button through the entire move.

This mid-level controls platform can be controlled with set positions and provides additional features. The 7-inch easy-to-use touch screen features a simple and intuitive interface that includes error messaging, warning indicators and a diagnostic display. This platform involves additional programming time and initial operator training.

The platform is well suited for the operation that wants more flexibility in programming that may be using the positioner for different parts or dimensions.

Smartest: L24 PNP

This fully programmable controls package has the most advanced interface and automation options. It can be preprogrammed to handle multiple operational processes, parts and steps allowing the operator to simply step it forward with the push of a button. It can also be customized to different operators’ needs and heights. This processor involves the most programming and training time for operators.

The L24 is ideally suited for more complex assembly, allowing for connectivity to other machines, robotics and factory networks.
